While I have a great role as Sir Richard in Robyn Hoode this fall, I’m usually found behind the scenes making a bloody mess… like, for example, carving and painting styrofoam for the rocks used in the defense of my castle. Props are an important part of any production, as they anchor the world we illustrate with our words and actions. While many of our props are used across many shows (the various bowls, jars, mugs, and benches), sometimes there are special challenges — like this pile of rocks. I never know what little piece of a world I will be called upon to create next! And that’s what makes being a props maker fun.
