A Midsummer Night's Dream

A Midsummer Night's Dream was written in approximately 1595, and more than 400 years later it is still one of William Shakespeare's most popular and widely-performed plays.  There is something for everyone in this entertaining comedy which features elements of love, marriage, passion, mistaken identity, trickery and magic.  Also featured is the common Shakespearean "play within a play", this time out performed by the Rude Mechanicals.  And don't forget the iconic character of Puck, a well-known trickster who gleefully delivers some of the best lines in all of Shakespeare!

Duke Theseus of Athens seeks to marry the Amazon queen Hippolyta, which piques the interest of Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of the fae.  Hermia loves Lysander but is being forced to marry Demetrius, who dumped Helena (Hermia's bestie).  When Hermia and Helena flee into the faerie woods, Puck's magical love spell accidentally causes Lysander and Demetrius to both fall for Helena!  Rude Mechanical Nick Bottom now has a donkey's head thanks to Puck - and what's worse the fairy queen Titania has fallen for the 'donkeyed' Bottom, proving Titania is no more immune to enchantment than any mere mortal.  The Rude Mechanicals have a play to perform, but are dismayed that their star is an ass (literally!).  Eventually, fairy magic saves the day and the plots are resolved because it was all just a dream... or was it?
